I could find that many HandHeld Computers are Difficult to use and the User Experience is a bit like wearing Shoes two Sizes Smaller.

So i thought i make a Feedback about how small a computer could be without any Compromise from the Present PC OS or Program Base. So we can use the same things we have on the Home PC.

That lead to a Open Concept Design which is Quite Possible, I noted the Points that can give some relief from the Suffocation of small Sizes, still maintaining mobility for people used to wearing Big Coats.

Sharp Willcom W-ZERO3

I saw a Review of Sharp/Willcom W-ZERO3. Image below, the layout is good but size is a bit small. If it is 60% bigger then it could use a regular Desktop OS and Programs (muntzed). As HDD, CPU and Batteries has become smaller, efficient and Better. I think this is close to the ideal handheld.

Internet and Intranet of Things – IoT

When Intelligent Devices (embedded systems) are privately and securely networked, it is called the Intranet of Things. This is like a Home-Office-Business private closed Cloud. This is ideal for Home and Infrastructure Automation and even Big Business or SMB Automation.

The Internet of Things – IoT is the Superset. It could be Secure and Private but still vulnerable to security lapses and breakdowns. This could send devices, robots and machines Berserk.

In all Networked Environments we have to have fallback arrangements when network fails or is compromised or even slow due to peak hour internet traffic.

WSN – Wireless Sensor Networks and M2M – Machine to Machine Data Communication;

M2M and WSN is a closed private Intranet network that is used in Manufacturing and Industrial Automation. Here we could use data sync to Interface it with the Web or Internet. This enables passive controls and monitoring of SCADA or Machine Status, yet very Secure.

COR – Collaborative Online Robotics – This is like team work for bots. Big tasks can be accomplished by very small and weak robots. Example – Observe Ants and Bees.

All these only mean Wireless Networked Intelligent Embedded Systems. They could be machines, appliance, robot or gadget. The brain is both on the device and in the Clouds.

Android Virtual Instrumentation

Any Tablet with an external Hardware can make a nice Instrument. The professional part lies in that external hardware and usability of the software or app. Windows Virtual Instrumentation are well known. Things like USB Scope and Data Loggers have been there for decades.

Now we have Android in which an Open Source product can be developed. The Open Source is both in Hardware and Software.

Virtual Instruments for Android has a nice future in Industrial, Automotive and Measurement areas. You could start by Interfacing with Bluetooth, USB and then move to IoT and WSN.

These were some questions i got a few years back…

1 – If i had to create a crude “Lux Meter” and “db Meter” using the built-in camera and microphone on a Android Device – How would i Calibrate it ?

2 – Is there a Component(software) for Android to interlace with a Arduino Device as an external interface, This will help us make a DMM/Scope or even a Entire Lab Test bench centered around a Tablet and a Plug-in Mini Instrument Rack.

Both Sound or db Meters and Lux or Light Level Meters are in the Google Play nut need calibration. All These Instrument Needs a USB/Bluetooth Sensors.

Add Bluetooth you can carry your Tablet away from the instrument probing the DUT. (Device under Test)
