Instrumentation can be divided into two types, one Process Control and the other T&M. Then there is a third related to R&D, Calibration and Analytical, This Overlaps the former two. One more Specialized area is Computer based instruments from ATE-VXI to Data Acquisition and SCADA. That is enough to boggle any new engineers mind and i will leave it at that.
