Just some study i made, only the understanding or conclusion here. For the years 2012-16. Low power consumption means we all last longer, healthy, si no, carbon footprint, Ser hombre bueno.

Units and Metrics

Screen Size is in Inches. Carbon or ‘caramba’ is the color code to emphasize the energy consumption.
Power is the zap or punch of ‘P4 at 2 Giga Hz with 1GB Ram’ – Let us say, this configuration packs One “Gonz”.

Energy is the juice it takes on the average browsing, word processing or youtubing, in Watts.

What you saw and What you got

If a Video was created in a Lower Resolution it is no use showing it at a High Resolution. A Video created or acquired in High Resolution can be shown in any lower resolution.

Showing a Video in High Resolution in smaller devices will not help much. This is the limit of the Human Eye itself. So do not waste bandwidth and processing power in very small devices.

I see a Splendid Future for Tablet Computers as they consume low power, portable, wireless web, ergonomic and affordable. They leave less eWaste when the product is disposed and it does not stress the Health of the user.

Tablets and Slates based on OpenSource OS. Even OpenHardware Tablets. This is a collage of various blurbs of mine in my other pages. An Home Appliance for Consumer Computing.

Why Tablets ?

  1. People want computing to be Personal and Portable and hassle free. With less Maintenance Tasks.
  2. Low Power or Green is the order of the Age, Fuel and Energy is not as easy, expensive and depleting.
  3. Low Carbon Footprint, The global carbon footprint of making, selling and scrapping tablets is low.
  4. The Technologies have evolved in Flash, Battery, CPU, OS, GUI, LCD, SMT and most Electronic Parts.
  5. Online – Web Computing and Cloud Computing offers Safer Storage and Powerful Web Applications.

Gesture Android Tablet – Tweak and Squeeze

I was forced to Invent again, this time it is a Gesture Tablet. Tweak and Squeeze the Air above Tablet. 3D input device for Android Tablets. – 2011

A Tablet built with four embedded but slightly tilted cameras in the four corners and a dedicated ARM Input processor. This detects and interprets the ‘finger gestures’ to enhance the touch experience and also Sketch/Write with dummy stylus/brush.

The software is as complex as speech recognition. For Factory Workers, Thick Skinned or Burly Hands you could totally switch to Gesture Mode.

Gesture Tablet.

Even if the Tablet Sports the Gorilla Glass, a Gorilla cannot use it with a Touch Interface, no not even a Chimpanzee. So Gesture Interface in very important for Larger 10 inch tablets. Makes Text input a Breeze and Boosts Gaming and 3D Capabilities.

How would you like to Make a Painting by just a gentle Swish and Swoosh of a Paintbrush over the Tablet. Even Drum your favorite tune by beating the Air on the Top of the Tablet.

Then you could create a 3D Sculpture on a Virtual Plaster of Paris block. You just need to download the right App, chisel and chip away the Air on the Tablet. When done, print to the 3D Cloud Printer Provider, a few hours later you collect the 4 numbers of 3D Prototype Prints from the Courier Man.

Let us take the Carrom Game as a Usability or Ergonomics Experiment, this game will be very effective only with a Gesture Tablet.

Butter Fingers and Ironman Thumb Issues

Not all Men/Women/Neumen are alike. Some have movements with less control and others like Hands-on Miners or Blacksmiths have fingers with a layer of Tough Corny Coat to protect it.

We need ‘Touch Gloves’ or ‘Touch Thimble’. These will empower even Ironman and ‘The Hulk’ to use a Tablet, Then only a Military Grade Space Ruggedized Version will do.

Desktop Computing Future

Wish we could Stop making Desktop Computers that are Energy Guzzlers by 2020. The Laptop/Notebook Electronics Design Architecture could be Ported to the Desktop Computer Physical Framework.

This makes Battery Operated Lean Desktops that can always be on Float Charge. Temporary mobility and convertibles are also possible. Power Failure proof.

A flexi ferrite table cover to wireless charge mouse, printer and keyboard batteries. An additional Lan with Wi-fi to network with all the Peripherals. This gets rid of the Cable Clutter and Device Drivers for Peripherals.

Desktop Computing Future

Device Interface

Wireless USB has not still been adopted as a standard for peripheral interface. (not to be confused with Wi-Fi USB sticks). BlueTooth is good but does not completely address Easy Peripheral Interface in terms of usability etc. This may help the Desktop Comp.

Nettops use less power and are the Desktops of Tomorrow, with cloud computing and wireless storage these are the essential devices to go to Green Computing and the Client-Server Architecture with the Cloud in mind. We need both Intranet-Cloud and Internet-Cloud.

Each PC should have Two Wi-Fi. One for Device Networking and the other is for Web and Networking. Device Networking means adding Smart Peripherals without Drivers. Example Wi-Fi External HDD and Wi-Fi Printer.

HardDisk

Rapid on off Power can Damage Hardisk. Transport of PC over rumbling Terrain, PC or Notebook drop on Hard Surface, Impulsive Jerks of Table on which Desktop Comp is placed; can mean, that your data and device is a goner. Maybe Desktops should use the more mobile Notebook Drives or external portable drives (technology), as these consume less power and are more robust.

An Early website HandHelds.org that was active in the days before the wave of Portable Devices you see today.  2003-2004. Advanced Portable devices are now in everybody’s hand.

My Notes –

I feel HandHeld Computers range from Advanced Calculators to Laptops, The have to be driven by batteries, charged by Mains, Solar, Wind Power or Dynamos. They can be carried around by a single human being or may be part of a Vehicle he uses. It can have a Wireless Web Connectivity or may just be a passive multimedia or games player.

Evolution of The SmartWatch

This post was made in relation to the TI Chronos and Casio watches, The early Smartwatches.(Some parts of this post removed, but this was the post in my one of my other blog that triggered the Smartwatch fever that you see today)

Ultra Low power Netbooks, Laptops, Tablets and Nettop Clients. Combined with a Resource Pooling and Sharing Community Cloud with hosted Apps

Both Consumer Computing & Enterprise Computing needs to go Green. It is not a Novelty but it is a Serious Preparatory Strategy for a Future

Evolving the Notebook PC with GesturePad

The Computer PC !

Any Device with Computing Abilities and an Integrated Screen of Size 7 Inches or more can be called a Pad, Tablet, Netbook, Laptop, Notebook or Desktop according to the size and use.

In this Professional, Serious and Productive Work can be done.

The All-in-One Low Power Desktop PC or the Nettop clinging behind the Monitor are the “Heir Apparent” of your Erstwhile Power Hungry Tower PC.

The 14-15 inch Notebooks with or without being convertible to Touch-Tablet is the clear winning computing device.

Innovate Next Notepad

The Mousepad and Mouse have to be Integrated in the side of the keyboard. The Touchpad has to be replaced by some Invention.

Evolving the Notebook PC with GesturePad

We could slide a tray on the right of the Laptop, which becomes the Mousepad or GesturePad. A low profile flat wireless mouse docked at the bottom of the Laptop (wireless charging on dock) is removed and put on the Pad. The Mouse is back …..life is much much better.

It could also be just a GesturePad as big as a mouse pad, A sturdy thin unbreakable reinforced poly carbonate pad that slides into the Notebook when not in use.

To use it, keep the entire palm on the pad and make Touch-Screen like Gestures, The three main fingers all can tap to simulate click/double-click and even the page scroll with middle finger.

Computing Conclusion

An Embedded Device less than 5 Inches is a Portable Communication and Gaming Device only. This is not good enough as a Computing Device.

What we now need is the GesturePad that slides from the right of the Laptop along with TouchScreen Laptops that have already arrived.
